Mt. Pleasant Town Council Tables Final Reading of Abandoned Watercraft Ordinance
Mt. Pleasant Town Council will be giving the final reading of their Abandoned Watercraft ordinance at tonight’s town meeting.
I will be updating the blog from the meeting to keep you all posted with any advancements…stay tuned.
I have been told by a number of Mt. Pleasant staff members that town council will be tabling the final reading of the abandoned watercraft ordinance until next month. Town officials need more time to assure that the ordinance is properly written to appropriately address the issue of abandoned boats in our waterways.
These boats have become a substantial threat to the health of our waterways. Not only do they present an environmental threat (by leaking gas, diesel, oil, etc.), but can pose a safety threat to other boaters while undeniably creating a terrible eye sore to our beautiful coastline. Charleston Waterkeeper is focused on the environmental threat these boats cause to our waterways. We are making this one of our primary issues for the upcoming year and will update you all on any progress.
