Send help to those in Haiti [UPDATE]

Photo from CNN.com

An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 ripped through Haiti on Tuesday afternoon, crippling the capital city of Port-au-Prince, a city of over one million people.  The impact has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and the displacement of many more.  The majority of the region has been left with very little infrastructure, including water, electricity and shelter.  Hospitals are out of room, medicine is scarce, and the Haitian consul general says that water is of “the utmost need.”

We’ve compiled a summary of organizations accepting donations to aid those in despair…

Since 2007, our friends at Charity: Water have worked with two programs in Haiti to supply clean drinking water for those in need.  At this time, they are asking that support be sent to their partner organizations that are already on the ground in Haiti – Concern Worldwide and Partners in Health.

In addition, CNN has compiled a list of organizations providing assistance; click here to learn more about these programs.

Two other organizations with which some of our friends have been involved include Mercy Ships and Mission Aviation Fellowship.

From Charleston to Haiti, our thoughts are with every individual affected by this devastating catastrophe.
