The Water Ball: A Smashing Success!

Kate and Lindsay Nevin put good use to the red carpet-like photo booth at the Water Ball. Click the image above to see more pictures from the evening.

More than 300 water-enthusiasts, community leaders and Lowcountry citizens came together last Thursday night for the First Annual Water Ball!  The night was a huge success with over 300 Water Ballers in attendance.  Crowned as “an evening dedicated to clean water,” the Water Ball shed light on the many issues Charleston Waterkeeper is tackling.

Thanks to a variety of interactive exhibits, including an immersive video dome, non-traditional red-carpet photo booth, an impactful map displaying the location of every industrial polluter in Charleston, and a water-themed silent auction, guests left the Water Ball entertained, educated, and hopefully inspired!

In a display of the our commitment to technology, Charleston Waterkeeper officially launched the Waterkeeper iPhone App at the Water Ball.   Our great friends at Warmwinds Software really helped us out with this one!  With the launch of this tool, we’ve taken empowerment to the next level by arming citizens with the ability to report suspicious activity while on, in or around Charleston’s waterways.  In addition, the app provides users with up to the minute tweets, posts and news about issues pertaining to the health of our harbor, rivers and creeks.  The app can be downloaded online at the app store or by clicking here.

Charleston Waterkeeper also became one of the first organizations in the world to begin using Twitpay, an online donation processing service allowing Twitter users to make donations to the organization with one click.  To sign up for this service and to learn more visit the enrollment site here.  We’ll be doing more with this in the near future!

Thanks to all of you who were in attendance and to all of our supporters and sponsors that helped to make the Water Ball a reality!  To view an official press release from the event, click here.

Also, a big thanks to our buddy, Austin, for putting this video together from the night.  Enjoy…
