We caught up with, Kaitlyn Dobbins!
HP: Why do you choose to support Charleston Waterkeeper?
KD: I support Charleston Waterkeeper because I truly believe they are making the biggest impact for the next generation of Charleston’s waterways. One of my favorite things about the organization is how they have built their initiatives on data, research, and science, which uniquely allows the organization to create real change for the health of our waters.
HP: What is your favorite way to enjoy clean water?
KD: Fly fishing is my favorite way to enjoy clean water here in Charleston. The health of our waters is vital to the continued flourishing of our fisheries. Aside from fishing, I love paddleboarding in the creek behind my house or getting out on the skiff with my husband and pups for an evening cookout at the sandbar.
HP: What is your favorite waterway in Charleston?
DH: I spend most of my time on the Stono River, so that’s definitely my favorite!
HP: Tell us about what you have been working on or a recent project
KD: For the past several years, I have had the honor of hosting Marsh Wear’s Lady Red Rendezvous, an all-ladies fly-fishing tournament for redfish, in Charleston, SC. This year, we had an amazing turnout with ladies from 9 different states coming to fish the event! It has been an amazing fundraiser for Charleston Waterkeeper, and the response of women wanting to support clean waters here has truly been incredible!
HP: Tell us something interesting about yourself that we might not know
KD: Growing up in North Florida, I always wanted to study and work in marine sciences. The ocean was always a place of beauty and inspiration for me. I took a completely different path and ended up starting my career in marketing, but I feel like it’s all come full circle as I get to be on the water all the time for the companies I have worked for and partner with incredible organizations like Charleston Waterkeeper!
