INTERVIEW WITH BRE DRAKE
We caught up with naturalist, photographer and artist Bre Drake!
HP: Why do you choose to support Charleston Waterkeeper?
BD: My passions revolve around water. I love to fly fish and I love to observe and photograph wildlife. If I could spend the rest of my days doing just those two things, I’d die happy. Clean water is the foundation of a healthy ecosystem, so clean water means happy, healthy critters. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that an organization like Charleston Waterkeeper exists to protect and advocate for our waterways.
HP: What is your favorite way to enjoy clean water?
BD: This one’s tough as it’s a toss up between bird watching/photographing and fly fishing for redfish at low tide. Both set my soul on fire.
HP: What is your favorite waterway in Charleston?
BD: Bull’s Bay. It feels so alive, wild and untouched. Wildlife is always thriving there.
HP: Tell us about what you have been working on or a recent project
BD: Well, I have been hard at work with the fine folks at Charleston Waterkeeper creating an original visual identity for their upcoming trash tournament, Rally for Clean Water – looking forward to seeing how it all comes to life! Beyond that, I’ve got some more design work surfacing soon for other outdoor industry clients, as well as a special side project I’ve been nurturing over the last few months. Hopefully I’ll be ready to make that one public in the coming months!
HP: Tell us something interesting about yourself that we might not know
BD: It’s even hard for me to believe this but, in my “past life,” I was a CPA working for a major telecommunications company. I made a complete 180 in terms of careers and I am oh so much happier in this creative life. It’s truly amazing how much life can change for the better when you follow your dreams.
