Volunteers just like you are the key to everything that we do at Charleston Waterkeeper! We LOVE that you keep showing up to get muddy and dirty for clean water with us. And you always stand up strong as clean water advocates and stewards. Your participation is what drives the success and positive impact of our cleanups and marsh restoration every year. If we don’t express it enough, we sincerely love and appreciate our Volunteer Corps! 💕 🌊 🙌

DHEC knows better
DHEC is failing to protect water and habitat quality in the coastal zone by permiting dense clusters of septic tanks. It’s only a matter of time before they pollute nearby water waterways and oyster beds.

Where does all that shell go?
8,000 people + 50,000 pounds of oyster shell + 3 conservation organizations equals the biggest oyster recycling event of the year! Real conservation requires collaboration.

We were delighted to catch up with the legendary, Walker Brock! Walker is a founding member and served as Charleston Waterkeeper’s Board Chair at a critical time.
Walker is not afraid to hustle and his steady hand, relentless commitment and solid advice has been integral to the success of Charleston Waterkeeper.

Mountainfilm on Tour! 🏔 🎥 ⛷
10th Annual Mountainfilm on Tour came to the Charleston Music Hall Thursday, February 8, 2024! It was a great evening of inspiring films with friends old and new! 🌊 ☀️ 🎣 🏔

What does hockey and clean water have in common? A lot of devoted fans! The energy was high and the supporters were loving the check presentation.

📣 Clean Water Updates 🌊
Chilly day, getting dirty for clean water! ✨🌱
45 Volunteers bundled up for our annual Magnolia Plantation Cleanup! They hauled tires, shoes, styrofoam, and plastics of all sorts out of the marsh, removing an estimated ~1,300 lbs of debris!

We work with DNR SCORE to plant Spartina seedlings for our effort to protect and restore your salt marshes. So far our amazing volunteers have planted 13,515 seedlings! Get in on the action.
That was a haul! 💪🏼
Charleston Waterkeeper had a crew of 23 volunteers participate in the Annual Francis Marion National Forest Cleanup on February 3. These amazing volunteers collected 635 lbs of trash!
How many saltine wrappers?
We work with DNR SCORE every Tuesday afternoon to clean up recycled oyster shell! So far this year, our volunteers have removed over 266 lbs of debris! That’s a lot of saltine wrappers!
