INTERVIEW WITH PERNG HUTSON
We caught up with, Perng!
HP: Why do you choose to support Charleston Waterkeeper?
PH: I choose to support Charleston Waterkeeper because of surfing and my love for any body of water. I feel the most at home when I’m on or in the water. Starting off the morning with a quick surf session is such a great way to start the day. And the weekly updates of what is going on in our waterways is packed full of information for people who love to be in nature and in the water as much as possible.
HP: What is your favorite way to enjoy clean water?
PH: My favorite way to enjoy clean water is by far my love for the sport of surfing. I try to go as much as I can usually to Folly Beach.
HP: What is your favorite waterway in Charleston?
PH: Folly Beach is my favorite, but I also love the marshes around the lowcountry. It’s just so beautiful being in nature and we are really lucky to have the ecosystem in Charleston. It really is not like most places.
HP: Tell us about what you have been working on or a recent project
PH: My recent project was helping another local non-profit organization called AMOR Healing Kitchen with their holiday fundraiser. Similar to CWK, AMOR helps the local community by feeding those who have chronic illnesses with nourishing meals.
HP: Tell us something interesting about yourself that we might not know
PH: My ethnicity is Chinese. My parents are from Taiwan. Its a beautiful place with wonderful people and even better food:)
