HP: Why do you choose to support Charleston Waterkeeper?

GH: Charleston Waterkeeper is a natural choice to support. Golden Hour Fly Fishing was created to raise awareness for its mission. Founder Caroline Irwin believes in uniting people to learn fly fishing and help protect our marshes for future generations.

HP: What is your favorite way to enjoy clean water?

GH: Fly fishing in the Lowcountry is more than a pastime—it’s a way of life. It’s about connecting with nature, giving back, and leaving the environment better than we found it. 

HP: What is your favorite waterway in Charleston?

GH: The Golden Hour community brings together women from across the Lowcountry, united by a love for fishing in the marsh and its winding rivers.

HP: Tell us about what you have been working on or a recent project

GH: Golden Hour took place this year on May 18 at the 487-acre Stevens Family Farm, protected by the Lowcountry Land Trust. Captain John Irwin led a casting demo, with Amy Bennett sharing her fly fishing journey with others. The event raised $14,000 through local support, sponsors, and a raffle.

HP: Tell us something interesting about Golden Hour that we might not know

GH: Golden Hour is more than a once-a-year event—it’s a movement to engage, educate, and empower women. It creates real connections across backgrounds, bound by a shared love of the outdoors.

HP: What do you have coming up and how can the readers get involved?
