Sewage Spill into the Ashley River [UPDATED]

A sewage spill has been discharging 6,000 - 10,000 gallons of untreated sewage into the Ashley River since Sunday afternoon.

At 4:30pm yesterday afternoon a sewage main located on the Air Force Base broke, releasing raw sewage into the Ashley River.  According to DHEC officials, 6,000-10,000 gallons of untreated sewage is being released each hour into the nearby river.  The North Charleston wastewater treatment plant is the responsible party, and according to officials, is currently working to address the problem.

We are investigating details surrounding the spill and will bring you more information as it comes.  Stand by, as we will also be releasing an official press release shortly.
