Tribute to James Joseph Welch

Jim Welch devoted over 150 hours of volunteer service to Charleston Waterkeeper as a dedicated Creek Watcher.

Jim began volunteering with Charleston Waterkeeper in 2017 and was among the earliest Creek Watchers to get certified in 2019. We had a lot to learn in the early days, but Jim stuck with us! He was always positive, patient and his feedback was integral to the growth and evolution of the program that has grown from a select few to over 40 and growing.

As a resident of Daniel Island, Jim was excited to adopt our first site on the island along Beresford Creek on Bellinger Island. Jim was one of our most dedicated Creek Watchers, conducting his monthly sampling early and consistently submitting his data to ensure success. He stuck with us as the program grew and changed over the years and made a lasting and positive impact on the Creek Watcher Program.

Thank you to Jim, the program is where it is today and he will be greatly missed by his fellow Creek Watchers and the Charleston Waterkeeper Team.
